While choosing free hosting option to host your website or blog isn't the best thing to do. But it seem inevitable when you do not want to spend money or do not have money for paid hosting service. Anyway, the choice has been made and now you are dedicating your time and energy to build your site on a free hosting service.
Now, what to do or to expect when your hosting your website on free hosting service. Here are a couple of tips when you are on a free hosting service.
Tips number 1, Backup your site.
If you do not have a lot of experience using free hosting, then let me tell you that your website could gone with the wind without any warning when you are using free hosting. Although this situation could also happen with the paid hosting service. So you need to backup your site regularly, this action can save your tears someday, as you won't need to cry when your free hosting account suddenly dissapear and so is your site, ofcourse.
Backup your website is important for any website, especially those with free hosting. So when choosing a free hosting service, make sure they have a backup function in the control panel. This goes the same when you are using free blog hosting such as blogger or wordpress.
Tips number 2, Use your own domain.
This is almost the same like tips number 1, but this even more important. When somehow, someday, your account in the free hosting service is gone, you can lose 2 thing. First is your website which contain files, but you can save these files on your computer and upload it again in another hosting if your current free hosting terminated. Then, the domain that goes with your website will gone too. To save this, you need to use your own domain and not the domain or subdomain from the free hosting service.
So, make sure you choose free hosting service that enable users to use their own domain.
Basically these tips are for recovery of your website when things go wrong with your free hosting account. That is why you need to read their rules to avoid your account get deleted because you are breaking their rules. Although many users have experience with their account get deleted even when they are not breaking any rules (this include me). I write these tips because i have experience before with free hosting and my account get deleted. But thankfully because of that 2 tips above, my website still up and running after being deleted when iam using free hosting service to host that website.
This is an example of my website that has been using free hosting service, get suspended, but still running because i can move it to paid hosting about 6 month ago. This my blog about Cell phone review that using .info domain (my own domain), and i always backup the database every week. The first 3 month of that blog, i was using free hosting to host it. Everything went well and that blog receive good traffic (about 1K daily) mostly from the search engine, but all the suddent my account got suspended by the free hosting service without me doing anything that i can think of violating the free hosting rules. Anyway, i stay calm about that, and straight away buy a cheap hosting so i can move my blog right away.
Remember what i say about regular backup and using own domain, thats what i did and i move my blog to a paid hosting and the whole process only take me an hour or two to get my blog back online.
